Sustainability is woven into everything we do, from the products we choose to the way we run our studio.
As proud members of Sustainable Salons New Zealand, we recycle up to 95% of salon waste, including colour tubes, clippings, and foils. Our colour line of choice is EVO Hue-verse: vegan, cruelty-free, and free from ammonia, PPD, and resorcinol. We use infinitely recycled tin foils and stock only high-performing products that deliver beautiful results without compromise.
And because great hair starts with great care, we work one-on-one with every guest. No double-ups, no tag-teaming. Just focused attention, personalised service, and exceptional results without stylist burnout.
Let’s be honest: this was never just about your roots. We get that your hair appointment is your identity, your quarterly mood lift, your time to read the damn book that’s been sitting on your bedside table for three months. So, we think beyond the basin to make your experience seamless. Can we get you something to drink? Here’s our menu. Prefer a silent appointment? Say no more. Want flawless hair all year round? We’ve got a membership for that.
I have Tinder hair....
It's messy, dry, and I swipe it to the right hoping for good-looking results.
A shared connection that runs quietly beneath the surface; between people, stories, and moments. Sometimes surprising, often unseen, it’s the quiet recognition in a glance, the shared story told in different ways. It reminds us we’re more alike than we assume. One thread, many paths; all woven into something that feels like home. It’s the feeling that you’ve found your place - because here, it’s more than just hair

Hair isn't just hair. It's identity, energy, a quiet kind of confidence. And your relationship with your stylist?
It's personal—or at least, it should be.
At Common Thread, we work one-on-one. No tag-teaming, no double-booking. Just undivided attention and intentional craft. Every cut, colour, and conversation is tailored because hair should feel like you, not like everyone else.
We're based in Pukekohe, but think beyond postcode. With high-level skill, thoughtful product choices, and a holistic approach to care, we create hair that's wearable, editorial, and completely individual.
We listen. We ask the right questions. We consider how you live, how you move, and how you want to feel. Then we get to work, creating hair that's effortless, elevated, and unmistakably yours.
Tracy Roberts doesn’t do things by halves. At 13, she decided she wanted to be a hairstylist - and not just any stylist. She wanted to train with Stephen Marr. By 15, she’d made it happen.
In 2012, she opened the first iteration of Common Thread on Glasgow Road: a small, no-fuss space with a big mission - to bring thoughtful, high-calibre hair to Pukekohe, minus the Auckland city traffic and attitude.
By 2019, the vision had grown, and so had the team. Tracy moved the studio to its forever home on Seddon Street. A purpose-built, design-led space with hand-forged metal by her husband, Alister, and custom woodwork by her dad, Allen. Built by family, run with intention.
Since then, Common Thread has evolved into a creative powerhouse: home to stylists from across Auckland, some trained by Tracy, all united by a shared standard of excellence and care. Here, we don’t do cookie-cutter cuts or conveyor-belt appointments. Just smart, intuitive hair artistry, tailored to you.
This isn’t just a salon. It’s a studio for the considered, the creative, and the quietly confident. A place where your hair is part of your identity, and we take that seriously.
Picture this - 16 years old, the first year of hairdressing and easily influenced. What's the cherry on top with this gem is those two ratty pieces of hair cascading down one's shoulders! Double shame - there clip in hair extensions bought with her first paycheck!
