When you come in for your consultation, one of the things we like to do is analyse your scalp and test a hair strand. This will let us know how strong your hair is and the limits of what can be done while keeping it healthy.
Because Rome wasn’t built in a day and nor was your hair, it is the sum of all of its interactions and we want to make sure that when you come to us you get the best possible results. We’re all about keeping your hair in the best condition while we take you on the journey to your ideal cut and colour. This is why we ask where your hair has been and what it’s been up to. And what relationships it’s been having with hair products - some products just aren’t made to play with others. AND some products may not work for you.!
We will take a sample of your hair and see how it reacts to the colour or other process we are intending to undertake. Our ultimate goal is to keep your hair as healthy as possible, so there may be times we will have to say we can’t do anything more to your hair. Better a hair test now that your hair breaking or falling out later! It also allows us to prescribe the right pre-service treatments to get your hair into the best shape before we work on it.
Hair growth and condition is affected by our whole environment. Where you live, your stress levels and emotions, medications, the kind of water in your pipes and our body's condition can contribute to your hair’s condition. This is why Scalp testing is so useful.
Think of your scalp as the soil in which the hair grows. Like a plant, your hair absorbs nutrients through its roots and relies on a healthy home base for strong, steady growth. If you have an issue with your scalp this can negatively impact your scalp. But don’t worry we have medicated products that can help with most scalp issues.
The third test we do - especially when you’re new to Davines, is an allergy test. If you have ever had a reaction to products placed on your skin or hair please ask for an allergy test. Allergy tests need to be done 48 hours before we perform the service so we can be sure that you will be safe. This test represents a necessary precaution.
However, be aware that even if an allergy alert test has been carried out, it is still possible to experience an allergic reaction when your hair is being coloured. The allergy alert test is also not a guarantee of avoiding future allergic reactions.
Please ask for test 48hrs before your appointment whenever you are worried about changes to your scalp or hair.
